About Our Brands

Volume Bikes was started in 1999 by Brian Castillo. During his early riding career, he worked at Primo in their R&D/Marketing department and helped re-brand their image/ products. Chances are that if you rode in that era, you rode a part or parts designed by him. Brian always had a lot of input on the design and development of the BMX parts he was riding. Hence, Volume Bikes was born. Brian even has a little BMX racing roots in him and it comes through in the strength and lightness of his designs.

Demolition came about in 2000 after an idea Brian Castillo had on a road trip with Jason Enns and Kris Bennett in Ashland, Oregon.  All three felt the need for a new parts brand due to the lack of rider owned and designed parts for the core riders at the time.  The lack of brands and owners of current parts brands during this period were middle aged men that lacked soul and history in bmx that all 3 felt were lacking by their current sponsors.

From that trip, Demolition was formed and Jason and Kris Bennett were obviously the first riders on team.  The 3 were ahead of the curve when it came to diverse pro riders at the time, all 3 ruled street, dirt, ramp and formed everlasting history from each one of their video parts and print magazine photos and articles.
The parts that were designed from Demolition at the time were built around the 3 riders and what they liked and dreamed of riding that their previous sponsors didn’t make.
Today the Demolition team is still just as diverse as the first 3 riders, and the parts are still designed from riders for riders.
With Resist our main influence is from BMX but as we all got older our interests started to drift to other types of bicycles. Fixed, commuters, 26” BMX, road and MTB’s. You name it, we’ll ride it! What we learned is that every bike we rode we treated it as a BMX bike. We always looked at each bike with a BMX spin. Whether it be a commuter or fixed gear bike, it always had our BMX parts on it. And of course we jumped and crashed them just like any of our 20” bikes too. In 2009 it hit us to start a parts brand for those exact needs, for those guys like us that want to put BMX influenced parts on their “adult” sized bikes to take the abuse. Through the months to come, you’ll definitely see a lot more of what we have in store. We want to also welcome all questions, opinions and criticism at info@180dist.com. We definitely want to hear from you guys on what you want from your parts. Your feedback means everything to us.
